Governance in Action: Practical Tools for First Nations Leaders

Building capacity for Chiefs, Councilors, and Community Board Members:

This program is appropriate for Chief's, Councilors, and those serving on First Nation's Health, Child and Family Services, Economic Development, and Community Boards.

Engage with Indigenous peers to build capacity around the fundamentals of community and organizational governance.

Based on governance principles and models, and the First Nations Financial Management Board structures, this Morris Interactive workshop takes you through the theory and practice of community and organizational governance, led by Facilitator Sherry Jimmy and guest presenters. Sherry combines the FMB model with 35 years of experience working in First Nations communities as a manager and advisor and a municipal leader, sharing wisdom, strategies, real word exercises, and tactics to equip you as a councilor, director, and organizational leader.

We are excited to announce our guest speaker , Cree Vice Chief Richard Derocher who will speak on “The Inherent Right to Govern: Indigenous Worldview, Treaties & Constitution, and Colonial Structures.”

No, the Morris Interactive Learning Centre (inside the Supreme Steel building) has free parking.

Yourself, all materials will be provided.

If I don’t attend, will I get a refund?

To offer a more streamlined experience for all participants, we do not offer refunds.

Can I bring a friend or colleague with me?

Of course! As long as they have been registered at least 2 weeks prior and paid for their seat (unless the workshop is at capacity).

Can I pay for my seat after attending the training?

Sorry, your seat is only confirmed once payment has been received.

Can I pay by cheque or invoice?

To offer a more streamlined experience, as of April 1, 2025, we are only accepting credit card payments for our conferences or workshops. If approval is needed by your supervisor, we can send an approval package, which includes an estimate and a copy of the agenda for approval by your organization.
